Dr. Brent A. Sharpe received his bachelors degree in chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1994. After obtaining his Medical Degree from East Carolina University School of Medicine in 2000, he completed a surgical internship at Texas Tech University, where he worked under Dr. Bernard Mittemeyer whose prostatectomy technique is the basis of today’s robotic prostatectomy. Dr. Sharpe completed his Urology Residency at Emory University in 2005 and is board certified by the American Board of Urology.
Dr. Sharpe treats all urological conditions but has special interests in prostate cancer and erectile dysfunction. Since arriving in 2005, he has expanded the minimally invasive treatment options in the area and made them more widely available to patients of North Alabama. He is the area’s first and most experienced robotic surgeon, offering robotic surgery for kidney cancer, cystocele/pelvic prolapse, and kidney drainage reconstruction (i.e. pyleoplasty). He is also the first urologist to complete laparoscopic procedures such as kidney radiofrequency, pyleoplasty, and pure laparoscopic radical nephrectomy in this area.

Dr. William E. Hughes, received his undergraduate degree in Applied Physics from Auburn University in 1973, and was commissioned as a naval officer. He earned his Medical Degree from the University of South Alabama in 1984, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society.
Dr. Hughes completed his surgical and urologic residencies at Portsmouth Naval Hospital in 1990. He then served as head of the urology department at Millington Naval Hospital from 1990 to 1997, when he joined Urology Specialists. He also served as clinical assistant professor of urology at the University of Tennessee School of Medicine from 1994 to 1997. He is certified by the American Board of Urology.
A native of Decatur, Dr. Hughes is married with 3 children.
